The current tier list says Puss in Boots is top tier. What is your playstyle for Puss?

Puss is really good because of his speed and aggression. Landing a hit very frequently leads to many more, he can chase opponents down easily with this aerial and general ground speed. He is perhaps the most well rounded character of the bunch, without a specific dominant technique. His Slam is also ridiculous.

Can confirm Puss is basically awesome. My playstyle is mostly move fast and hope that one day I understand what the hell I'm doing.
(I literally only started playing earlier this week give me a break.)

Puss in Boots currently is one of the most basic, well-rounded characters in the cast among high/mid tiers even now. Speed and good frame data gives him a decent neutral game with the ability to mix up aggression and walling out opponents in most matchups.
His slam is not that polarizing. It has the horizontal range of basically Shrek's slam. Aside from good vertical distance, it's (relatively long) start up prevents it from being all that good. If you don't land the initial stunning stare, it is easy to avoid using platforms on most stages or by even wall jumping. This leads to Puss mains usually having to setup the slam to hit with an anti-air or a grab, or the Puss main has to read the opponent to land it. Not to mention, in a cast of characters who can usually 0-slam consistently in different ways, Puss does not shine at all in this regard. Aside from a couple of specific punishes, Puss is like Humpty Dumpty where he has to get more than one opening to fill his slam meter.
This post is to give a decent idea of how he is in this current meta to newer players.

Current Meta Puss in Boots as of 1/24/2017:
This post is to give a decent idea of how he is in this current meta to newer players.
Puss in Boots is still a basic character with a moveset based on speed and range. His frame data is actually very decent and can use attacks without committing too much.
His slam is very bad in the scale of the whole cast. It has slightly long startup, the stun hitbox can be rolled through (if the roll comes out early enough), and the dashing sequence is slightly slower than Donkey's. So if you do not land the stun hitbox, your opponent is almost certainly going to get away from you. So, other than heavy reads, Puss gets most of his kills from slam confirms, which all are from ground grab. A simple ground throw or an anti-air both confirm it, but both most likely will come from a ground grab.
His lackluster punish game aside from specific punishes (see the combo thread for more info) holds him back too much making him a low tier since the cast outside of low tier are at least decent in all areas of the game. This forces the character to rely on a hit n' run style where most of his options have to be safe, which thankfully can be helped by his decent frame data, speed, and range.
