Alright, I would like to propose a way to plan our tournaments this year for objective ranking, and for the need for consistent spread between tournaments in order to not burn out our community.
The First SLAM Circuit:
We would plan the majority (maybe close to all) of our tournaments on a consistent schedule that people can expect a tournament to happen (seems to be weekends at this point). So the idea would be to figure out just how long we spread out our official tournaments in terms of weeks.
In terms of how this would determine player ranking, we would use an exponential points system. The higher the placing, the higher the points earned of course. The amount of points to earn would also be affected by the number of entrants these tournaments would have. Another piece to mention here is that the netplay tournaments would have more points to earn than our current locals, since most of the attendees for those are people who don't play the game afterwards or don't participate in the overall community as compared to people within the discord server or even Shrekboards. Besides, we do not have a set standard for how the regions themselves rank against each other specifically, not to mention some regions have too few players to participate. So winning sets on the netplay tournaments will affect their ranking more than winning local sets.
In terms of tournaments to be included, the tournaments would have to be planned ahead in order to determine the points given based on the amount of players who would participate and to lay down the format that the tournament(s) would follow. This is to prevent tournaments that have little planning or just happen on the spot don't take place too often so that the players have time to breathe.
The Rules I posted for Even Matchup 2 are the ones I will be experimenting with in order to determine if this decreases tournament delays and other problems we had within the past year.
The points would determine the top players who would be eligible for a final tournament by the end of the year (if we assume that we would go at most by a weekly basis, we would have
around 52 tournaments at maximum by the end of the year, and there are not too many people who plan these tournaments, so this number is not too overwhelming if even reached). The
ideal for this final tournament would be for the top 8 players to compete in a double elimination bracket, but if there are enough active players who compete, we could increase
the maximum to maybe 12 or 16 (enough active players where the skill gap is not too grand, assuming that we get to that point in attendees).
I would like to work with any tournament organizers who are willing to participate in this project in order to have a balanced way to dedicate to our game in a healthy way. If you want
to help this project work, please contact me and we can work on the specifics on the points system, who would run which tournaments (in order to allow others to just play in the tourney
while another would focus on running it, like me with Even Matchup 2). All TOs who want to help can fit in their tournaments into the system based on the guidelines that are finalized.
