Look. SSL is pretty fun and all, but I'm trying to make a meta and community for my a game I like alot. It's basically a Naruto game, but it is really just a unique tekken clone with a mix of melee with several characters being able to wavedash and all characters being able to Y cancel moves. The game is called Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4. I'm trying to sprout the communities wings by netplay, but it really isn't working. I've made a subreddit + a forum for the game but, to no avail. Nobody comes. So how did you, with an obscure game such as this, manage to be where you are today? reddit: www.reddit.com/r/GNT4forum: missing-nin.boards.net/

Hey dude, being totally honest, some of the main reasons people caught on was because 1. Everyone has seen Shrek and 2. The concept is silly. The game you're talking about surrounds an anime which whilst popular, isn't as known as Shrek is, and seems quite serious. My advice is to find existing Naruto communities online and try to convince people there, because it wont spread by word of mouth like SSS is.
Thanks!

Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 is a Japan only release which makes the game a huge hassle to run tournaments for. Aaron and I are actually starting a Clash of Ninja scene in our area, and while we really wanted to do GNT 4, it's been decided against as everybody that is interested played Clash of Ninja 2 as it was the last one to be released in North America and everyone had it, so we settled with that. You'll probably have to get players in your local Smash/fighting game scene interested, I don't really think netplay is the most viable platform. Find people that have played the Clash of Ninja series before, find people with open minds that find the game interesting, and form a scene from there. Numbers is the most important thing about starting a scene, when other people from around the world see videos and stuff for a game and see that people care about it enough to host tournaments and forums, interest will spark and it will eventually bloom into a community if there's enough effort and passion put into it by everyone that wants it to happen. Good luck.

But why not build the whole community out of emulation? The Smash 64 community did it and they are still going strong. Only using physical copies for majors. I really do think netplay could be viable in this case.

Because certain people, myself included, think netplay is much more of a hassle to set up and I refrain from playing it because I hate input delay. I go to tournaments because I get to see some of my best friends and spend time with them while playing a game we love, and netplay takes that away from the experience. That's just me though.
