I just got the game and movement appears a little slow/difficult to get the hang of. Is there a way to start the combos besides camp with apples?

Crumpet Dashing for approaching may be a good idea in many situations.

Not playing RRH could be a good start. If you insist though, watch Boasting Toast 's matches from Slam in the Swamp. I think that people would agree that he is the best reference for aggro-RRH that we have so far.

Crumpet dashing is the most important approach tool. Certain characters (Gingy, Dronkey, Fiona, etc) have very potent crumpet dashes, making them great picks for starters as it's fairly easy to win neutral with them. Practice doing it extremely low to the ground. It's very difficult and painful on the hands, but consistently doing them within frames of leaving the ground gives you amazing options. You can just go for the attack, shield drop it if you think they're gonna try to stuff it with an attack, or shield drop>grab if you think they'll shield. Grabbing is very potent in this game and opens up great combo opportunities for a lot of the cast, so put it to good use. Learning to swooce is also very beneficial if you're getting zoned out. Just crumpet dash>shield drop>double jump out of shield before you land, it'll send you flying across any stage and is great when used with your air grab. Good luck, I plan on making some video guides soon to help new players understand the game's flow, stay tuned.
