We've had a lot of people sign up to the Discord recently and ask the same questions, so I thought I'd lay out a beginner's guide here for people. Yes I just ripped this from the same post I made on the subreddit.
Is there a tierlist?
Here.
Why is Red Riding Hood banned?
Here.
What version is played?
Gamecube. The scene formed from Melee players so we're comfortable with the controller. Dolphin is also the best emulator available at the moment, and has the best netplay integration. Both Dolphin and console have good support for custom Gecko codes.
Netplay?
The scene is very spread out across the globe, so most games are played over netplay. If you use Windows, the easiest way to join in is to simply download the netplay build, which comes with all the settings required except controllers (and an ISO of the game, you'll have to find that yourself).
For other players, simply acquire the same version of Dolphin 5.0-369 and add the Gecko codes yourself, that's literally all the netplay build is.
Custom Gecko codes?
Currently, the main reason for this is to disable items. There is no in-game switch to disable them, so we have had to resort to modding them out. We believe this is necessary as the items are very obnoxious and ruin a lot of otherwise viable stages. The Disable Items code is not perfect yet, and discussion of it's shortcomings and development can be found here. We also use Gecko codes to unlock all the characters and stages.

The subreddit is actually considered dead to most of the scene, and as such it is highly worth joining the following:
Most of the discussion happens on the Discord, which is fairly active. Pop along and say hi!
Any videos of play?
As previously stated, most games are played on netplay and as such the footage suffers a bit. Nonetheless:
